What these figures do and do not say
Every value on this page describes a neighbourhood of roughly 1,500 people, not a street, a building or a household. Where this page gives one number for Wigan, it is a summary of those neighbourhoods: the median of them for prices and rankings, and a population-weighted average for crime rates. Two houses on the same road can fall in different neighbourhoods.
Deprivation is a relative ranking of areas against each other, not a measure of anyone's circumstances. Every deprived area contains people who are not deprived, and every affluent area contains people who are struggling.
Why crime is blank here. data.police.uk is a voluntary publication and Greater Manchester Police is not currently supplying it. For April 2026 a search of central Manchester returned 4 recorded offences, against 1,392 for central Birmingham.
